I haven’t used my jeweler’s saw in years for anything other than cutting a straight line to make another design. But not this week! A few weeks ago I was watching a new show on Apple TV called The Morning Show with Reece Witherspoon and Jennifer Anniston. Jennifer’s character was wearing a gorgeous pair of gold earrings in one of the episodes, and I was inspired to make these layered brass earrings with sterling silver accents. I think the trick to making brass earrings resemble gold is in the finish you choose and the thinness of the metal. Jennifer’s earrings were very lightweight and thin,Read More →

Yesterday, I went for a hike and decided to stop at a bench to take a break.  I noticed an ant on the bench, and my first instinct was to flick it away. I can’t tell you how much I abhor ants. But for some reason, I stopped myself.  I thought to myself: “What if I were an alien, and was visiting Earth, and I came across a human?  Maybe I’m a huge alien, like so big that the human can’t really see me because of his limited perspective.   If a human annoyed me, would I just flick it away? I’m Feeling A Sense of Renewal. This morning, I chose to begin with light. I stepped outside to sit on my porch, letting the sun warm me for fifteen quiet minutes. While I was there, my eyes landed on the Morning Glory I wrote about yesterday. Its simple presence reminded me how powerful it can be to welcome the day with intention of letting the light set the tone for how I feel before anything else. When I’m wrestling with something, God rarely whispers. He speaks through the world around me, and today, it was the Morning Glory. Whenever I’m grappling with something, God usually uses my environment to grab my attention so that we can have a little sit down. So, the Morning Glory opens at dawn and closes at dusk…hmm…I’m sensing circadian rhythm is at play here. The Morning Glory is a spiraling vine. I use the spiral in my work as a jewelry designer all of the time. It’s personally meaningful to me, because I’ve noticed that the rhythm of my life is more of a spiral thanRead More →

One of my favorite things to do is walk on a trail near my house while listening to a podcast. Today’s was a doozy. Today, I went for a 3-mile walk and was listening to Tetragrammaton, a podcast hosted by Rick Rubin. He was interviewing Bernard MacMahon, a filmmaker who made the documentary Becoming Led Zeppelin that’s on Netflix right now. I’m going to admit something here, that I find bizarre and somewhat embarrassing –but I discovered the genius of Led Zeppelin about 10 years ago.  How is it possible that even though I’d heard Led Zeppelin on the radio many times as a kid,Read More →
